In Long Point, the driver involved in a hit-and-run collision with a cyclist has been taken into custody.
Around 9:00 p.m. this past Saturday, July 27th, Norfolk OPP, along with Norfolk Paramedic Services and the Norfolk Fire Department, responded to a collision between a motor vehicle and a cyclist on Erie Boulevard in Long Point.
The cyclist was traveling along Erie Boulevard when they were struck by a newer model black sedan, which fled the scene. The cyclist sustained serious life-threatening injuries and was transported to an area hospital before being transferred to a trauma center for further treatment. Erie Boulevard was closed for several hours following the collision.
Later, the involved vehicle, identified as a black 2020 Hyundai Elantra sedan, was located by the Hamilton Police Service in the City of Hamilton. The driver was subsequently taken into custody without incident.
A Nineteen-year-old man of Dundas, has been charged with the following alleged offenses:
- Dangerous operation causing bodily harm
- Failure to stop at an accident resulting in bodily harm.
