Some numbers the Ontario government tried to keep secret paint a stark picture of the staffing shortages plaguing the province’s health and long-term-care sectors.
The figures obtained by The Canadian Press show Ontario expects to need 33-thousand, 200 more nurses and more than 50-thousand, 800 personal support workers by 2032.
The government recently won a fight in front of the Information and Privacy Commissioner to keep those figures under wraps after denying Global News’s Access to Information request for the data.
But the same office made the information available to The Canadian Press through a separate request, which critics say exposes the frailties and arbitrariness of the system.
