Ontario’s government is asking the province’s energy regulator to explore options for a discounted electricity rate for electric vehicle chargers.
Energy Minister Todd Smith says the rate would reduce the cost of electricity for public E-V chargers in areas where demand for the service is beginning to emerge, to encourage more drivers to make the switch to electric vehicles.
The province says public E-V charging stations in areas with low adoption rates are either not built or operate at a loss, giving rise to charging accessibility concerns.
