Lights, camera, action!
The Norfolk County Public Library is excited to be working hand in hand with the Haldimand County Public Library once again this year for its fourth annual Watch Local Week.
The big focus this year is their second-ever 24-hour Youth Film Challenge, kicking off on Friday, May 10th at the Jarvis library.
That was NCPL Virtual Library Coordinator Belinda Smith.
She said they also have ways to make sure that nothing is filmed ahead of time.
They return to the Jarvis branch the following day, have a pizza party, and turn in their films.
During the week, those movies are handed over to Mark Rapley and his gang at the Strand who will convert the files over and get them ready to be screened at the movie theatre.
Awards will be handed out after the screening, including a new one this year.
This contest is for youth in high school.
Depending on how many submissions are handed in, Smith said they may screen some professional short films as well.
The event is free to attend, but she does encourage everyone to plan to bring a little bit of cash.
While the focus is on the film festival, the festivities will begin on Tuesday, May 7th with a virtual “Meet the Filmmakers” event that will be live-streamed at 7:00 p.m. on YouTube.
You can join host and filmmaker Dean Rainey of Rainey Media along with professional filmmakers Courtney Deelan and Steve Roher, and youth filmmaker Zoë Veldhuis, in a lively discussion on the TV and film industry, their projects, and more.
