The Haldimand-Norfolk Health Unit wants residents to enjoy the wonders of the solar eclipse…safely.
The moon will block the sun on Monday, with the eclipse beginning at 2 p.m. and finishing around 4:30 p.m. – the total eclipse will begin around 3:16 in Norfolk and last a little over 3 minutes.
Looking directly at the sun, even during an eclipse, can cause serious and permanent damage to the eyes and symptoms can sometimes take 12 to 48 hours to appear – once that starts it’s usually too late to reverse the damage.
Solar Eclipse glasses are needed to Monday, as regular sunglasses will not protect your eyes.
In addition to eye safety, the HNHU urges caution for those traveling during the eclipse; sudden changes in lighting conditions and increases in traffic can pose challenges for drivers.
