Firefly and Fox has entered a new chapter in their Norfolk County adventure.
The bookstore has been leaving the confines of its Norfolk Street location and has been actively engaging in community outreach, planning big events for kids and adults alike.
Recently, during March Break, they had people coming in to read stories and engage in activities at locations in the downtown core for the kids.
They’ve also been actively hosting adult book events and author talks as well.
Owner Catherine Fox, with some added commentary from her little baby Gilbert, talked about what drove the bookstore to expand their horizons.
She said these events bring kids and adults together, and can transform something solitary like reading a book into a community activity.
But Fox says the choice of venue is important as well.
With a store in the downtown core, it’s important for her to host these events at local businesses like Joys, Kingfisher, and Riversyde 83.
When it comes to the kid-centric activities, she says she is a strong extrovert – but knows that there are many shy kids out there who love to get lost in the pages of a great story, and she is hoping these events can connect them to other cool things.
As for the author talks, she says it has been great for locals but also it has been a really enjoyable experience for the authors as well.
