A survey regarding the Simcoe Recreation Centre introduced a broader question of recreation in Norfolk County as a whole.
At council on Tuesday, our elected officials looked at some of the upgrades and changes being made to recreation facilities in the county – with Councillor Kim Huffman noting a recent survey that was put out by the county looking for recommendations for the floor space at the Simcoe Rec Centre now that the ice is gone.
Mayor Amy Martin also touched on that survey, feeling slightly blindsided by the survey going out and the wave of questions that came her way following it.
Councillor Alan Duthie also chimed in, noting the intention behind the survey was great, but the timing was poor.
Martin shares the same sentiment, and noted maybe a broader conversation was needed after seeing a list of fixes and repairs that were on docket for this year and the concerns from the public.
CAO Al Meneses commented shortly after this, saying that the county staff was listening to this conversation and understands the intent.
As for the survey, they will be clear moving forward – but the purpose of the survey was to ensure what the new floor space would be used for, not to debate about returning the ice back.
Several hockey groups have been sharing this survey over the past week, advocating for hockey families to fill it out and request that the ice return.
More information on the survey can be found here.
