The CN rail line going through Courtland is hindering the development and growth of the village.
Yesterday, Council heard the deputation of David Holmes on behalf of Titan Trailers in Courtland.
Titan owns lands on both sides of the rail line and would like to develop that area into residential homes.
The specific portion of track that Titan would like to see discontinued, is East of both Highway 59 and Talbot Rd. Holmes explained that the old rail line could be converted into bike paths, walking trails and utility space for residences.
So, why is housing so important to Titan? Holmes explains:
Titan recently surveyed all of their employees about their housing situation. The results were surprising and highlighted the need for more housing in the region.
The province-wide affordable housing issue couldn’t be more clear than here in Courtland. Holmes noted that the Province has issued a mandate to have employment lands near residential lands, and this development would satisfy that mandate.
When questioned by councillors if these houses were specifically for Titan employees, Holmes replied frankly.
The council voted unanimously to proceed with this development.
