The Ontario government made a pit stop in Norfolk County yesterday for a special announcement.
Minister of Natural Resources and Forestry Graydon Smith went to council chambers to talk about their newly launched program to help municipalities with inactive oil and gas wells.
While in Norfolk, he went over our share and where that money will be spent.
During its first year, the program will provide $2 million in funding to up to nine municipalities to fund activities focused on improving emergency preparedness and risk prevention.
Nearby municipalities of Oxford County, Brant County, and Haldimand County will also be getting funding this year.
There are roughly 27-thousand abandoned oil and gas wells in Ontario.
The province plans to provide 7.5-million-dollars to municipalities over the next three years as part of its nearly 24-million-dollar action plan
