The Norfolk OPP feel they once again need to remind the public of some very simple and easy to understand information.
That was Constable Ed Sanchuk.
Despite this being the law of the land for years now, calls keep coming in of cars zooming by stopped school buses.
On Friday the 13th, police received another call from a concerned bus driver who watched as a car speed by on Oak Street in Simcoe despite the bus being stopped, with their lights on, and stop sign activated.
Sanchuk says if you are caught, it will be costly.
But the fines are the least of a drivers concern should the unthinkable happen.
Vehicle owners need to be aware that if the driver can’t be identified, the owner can be charged for the offence provided the licence plate number is obtained by any witness.
If convicted, the driver/owner can be fined not less than $400 up to $2,000 for a first offence and to a fine not less than $1,000 – $ 4,000 or imprisonment for a subsequent offence(s).
The penalty section also levies 6 Demerit Points to a driver’s licence.
