
Police are investigating a fatal hit and run.
At around 4:50 a.m. on January 3, Norfolk County OPP, Six Nations Police Service, fire and EMS responded to an Indian Line address in Townsend for a collision involving a pedestrian.
Investigation so far shows that the pedestrian was struck by a vehicle and suffered life-threatening injuries. They were transported to a local hospital where they were pronounced deceased.
The vehicle involved in the incident failed to remain at the scene.
Investigators determined the vehicle involved in this fatal collision was a white coloured Volkswagen Atlas, Sport Utility Vehicle between the years of 2018-2022. The vehicle has a sunroof, roof rails and extensive damage to the front of the vehicle. It was last seen heading eastbound on Indian Line towards King Street in Hagersville.
Automotive repair facilities, scrap yards or local repair outlets and tow truck operators are being encouraged to contact authorities if they have dealt with a vehicle matching the above description.
Investigation is ongoing. Anyone that noticed anything suspicious in the area between Mohawk Road and Villa Nova Road between 4 and 5 a.m. is being asked to contact police at 1-888-310-1122. Those living in the area are also being asked to check their surveillance footage to see if they captured the vehicle or pedestrian.
The name of the deceased is not being released pending notification to next of kin.
The area was closed for multiple hours while officers investigated, but has since reopened.
