We are looking back at 2022 and ahead to 2023 with our Year In Review segments.
We sat down and talked with Norfolk General Hospital’s President and CEO Todd Stepanuik.
2022 was an eventful year at the hospital, with the closures and reopening of both Holmes House and the Labour and Delivery Unit.
Starting in the position of CEO in July of 2022 meant stepping into a role with a lot of work to be done.
He said he wants to help create work places of joy, and recognize each and every staff member and volunteer within the hospital organization.
The CEO said before starting in the position he knew about the situations with Holmes House and Labour and Delivery.
He said it was inspiring to see the commitment by the organization and staff to reopen these services to the community.
This year also saw the Emergency Department forced to close three times due to staffing shortages.
He said he closures were due to sickness, and mentioned their staff members aren’t immune to sickness and there is only a finite number of staff that can come in when someone is unable to come to work.
Looking ahead to 2023, Stepanuik said he is excited for what the future brings.
Among the changes planned, he is mapping out a strategy to migrate to electronic medical records.
He extended his gratitude to the Hospital Foundation, volunteers, and donors for all of their support to the hospital organization.
