The Waterford Heritage Trail saga is coming to a close.
At a special council meeting this week, Norfolk County Council approved staff’s recommendation to move forward with the paving project.
This first came to the attention of council when the trail group requested funding and permission to pave a portion of the trail. Since then, they have fundraised all of the required financial support, including a large federal grant that needs to be used on the paving project before March 2023.
That was Bill Cridland, GM of Operations.
This means the crushed lime stone, which some residents rallied for, would not fall under the use of the grant.
The Accessibility Advisory Committee heard nine deputations on the matter.
Staff conducted a survey of the community, which had 915 responses. Of those, 48 per cent of respondents supported paving the trail, 42 per cent supported crushed lime stone, and the rest had no preference.
