It’s an ongoing problem with no concrete solution in site.
Earlier this week, the Lynn Valley Trail alerted their users to thumb tacks being tossed in their trail and the problem seems to stretch well across the county.
Paul Meiklejohn is an Executive with the Turkey Point Mountain Bike Club and owner of Elevation Mountain Bike Camps and Coaching.
A few weeks ago, he began hearing about tacks in tires and began seeing it first hand with the bikes he rents out.
Members of the club, for the most part, were quick to adapt as tacks in typical bike tires are obviously a concern and a work around is not always viable for everyone.
He said as a club, this has obviously been an issue and there is no playbook on how to deal with a situation like this.
With that, he says with talking to many different bikers – this doesn’t appear to be a Norfolk specific problem.
Earlier this month, the Brantford Police were investigating tacks left on their trail as well.
Meiklejohn says they look after over 90 km of trail, meaning they rely on the community to report anything they may see.
They have increased their magnet dragging on the trails in the mean time in hopes of capturing any left over tacks.
