Adam Veri is not someone who can sit at the sidelines and watch others get things done.
He is the current chair of the Norfolk County Public Library, a board member of the Committee of Adjustments in Norfolk, a board member of Port Dover Minor Baseball and Hockey (where he coaches a team for each) and the Past president of the Board Of Trade in Port Dover and the Rotary Club of Simcoe.
For Veri, having a seat at Norfolk County Council representing the people of Ward 6 is the next logical step.
He says years ago, he made a decision that he wanted to give back to the community as much as possible because helping out others ended up being a two way street.
Veri is also concerned when it comes to the budget, and the increases he’s seen year after year.
He believes one way the council could help is by putting a freeze on the pay they are getting right now, as he doesn’t feel like council should be getting more and residents need to pay more.
One trait that Veri says he will bring to the table is that he will be there, he will put in that “sweat equity” and make sure the community knows he is approachable.
He said this trait comes from a familiar source.
One of the big ticket things that Veri would like to change in Port Dover is paid parking, as he feels other options need to be looked at such as angled parking and parking lots, but not charging and not solving the issue.
Four years ago, Veri ran for Ward 6 and during that campaign he pledged whether he got elected or not, he would get a seniors centre opened in Port Dover, which he did earlier this year with help from community members.
He feels there is a blind spot in Norfolk, as they are hyper focused on youth retention, but not looking at ways to help seniors in our community live their best life which is why one of the first things he’d like to accomplish if he makes it to council would be to establish an Advisory Board specifically looking at the needs of seniors in the community.
