Scotlynn Group is set to pay $125,000 after pleading guilty on Monday to one count of failing to take reasonable precautions to protect employees.
As CBC reports, this case stems from the COVID-19 outbreak that claimed the life of a worker from 55-year-old Juan Lopez Chaparro.
The farm group had faced 20 charges after an inspection by the provincial Labour Ministry in September.
The report also notes that the $125,000 fine is far short of the $1.5 million the court could have imposed.
Under the agreed statement of facts it noted that Chaparro was bedridden for several days in the bunkhouse he lived in but was not isolating and that Scotlynn failed to take the reasonable precaution of isolating COVID-19 symptomatic workers from other workers.
