
The OPP are teaming up with the Retail Council of Canada and the Canadian Anti-Fraud Center for Fraud Prevention Month.
That was Acting Sgt. Ed Sanchuk talking about just a few scams to hit the area locally and abroad.
This in-store and social media campaign is developed to draw attention to the most commonly used gift card fraud tactics.
Sanchuk said these scammers are professionals and know what to say to fool certain individuals.
You are being reminded that under no circumstances will a government agency request you to use gift cards as payment nor will they use an automated machine to call you.
If police or the government is looking to speak to you, they will call you in person and not use a machine to dial your number then put you on hold until you can speak to an individual.
