Townsend is subject that many people still have questions about.
With a population of just over 1200, the community that sits a great distance away from anything was suppose to be a major city with the government putting substantial money behind it back in the 70’s.
But, as Journalist and Historian David Judd will explain as part of the Norfolk County Archives first Hometown Chat series later this week – good ideas don’t always come to fruition and his involvement with the project.
It’s been decades, and Judd has continued following one of his first stories, recently getting more information on it as well as property owned by the government in South Cayuga.
The roughly 45 minute virtual meeting will touch on many different subjects.
In short, Judd said the population forecast was way off as the hydro plant, steel mill and oil refinery did not attract much further industry and the people did not come.
