Norfolk General Hospital announced this year’s winning team and individual for the Dr. George Marshall Award.
This award is presented annually to an outstanding employee in honor of Dr. George Marshall who practiced at NGH for many years and acted as our Employee Health Physician for much of that time.
The award celebrates someone or a team that shows passion and commitment for improving quality of care, leads by example, and inspires others
Mercedes Pereira, an employee at NGH for 35-years, received the honour.
Mercedes plays a major role with the hospital’s Housekeeping team and works as a waste porter.
Waste porters like Mercedes manage various tasks daily to ensure fantastic customer service and that our operations run smoothly.
The 4B Complex Continuing Care and Rehab team was the 2021 group recipient of the Award as well.
The team was honoured for the efforts they provided during the third wave of the pandemic when they entered team-based care.
The third wave of the pandemic created a surge of severely sick COVID patients in Haldimand-Norfolk and
across the province.
The 4B Complex Continuing Care and Rehab team answered the call by leaving their regular positions, and
their teams, to temporarily work in other areas of the hospital where they were needed most.
The Norfolk Hospital Nursing Home Employee of the Year Award was presented to Mary Novak, a personal support worker (PSW) at NHNH.
The award is given to someone that cares for the residents and goes above and beyond in their role.
A total of 74 employees were honoured for their time spent at the hospital, adding up to nearly 1,100
years of service.
21 of the employees were recognized for between 20 to 40 years of employment.
Suzanne Paulmert was this year’s only 40-year Service Award recipient.
