myFM had the opportunity to sit down with Acting Medical Officer of Health Dr. Matt Strauss and talk openly about his background, the controversies that surfaced after his hiring was announced, and his vision for the future in Haldimand–Norfolk.

The interview was conducted at the Health Unit in Simcoe, and some noises in the background during the first clip are simply computer sounds from the office.
We spoke to Dr. Strauss about his background and why he wanted to seek the role of Medical Officer of Health, his response to the backlash he received after it was announced he would be the Acting MOH, and his rationale for some of the controversial tweets.
Here, we discuss two tweets specifically and get his reasoning behind them. We also spoke about a story posted by the Canadian Press that claimed Dr. Strauss had called people who opened stores during lockdown “heroes,” and his objection to that characterization — including his request that the statement be removed.
In this clip, we talk about his stance on lockdowns, vaccines, and mask mandates.
Finally, we spoke to Dr. Strauss regarding current Section 22 orders for migrant workers, his main goals as Acting MOH in the area, and vaccine passports.
