
Parking in Norfolk County was discussed at length during this week’s council meeting.
Staff brought forward three reports, discussing the need for seasonal parking bylaws across the county, a pilot project for parking in downtown Simcoe, and an increasing need for parking in downtown Waterford.
An Internal Parking Working Group was created in May to discuss parking issues in the county with staff from multiple departments.
Staff has requested a corporate-wide parking strategy.
In Simcoe, a three-month pilot project is being run to increase the parking limit in three of the public lots from two hours to 48.

In Waterford, an increased need for parking in the downtown core has been noticed during the pandemic, with more visitors coming to the Waterford Ponds.

Staff is continuing to look at parking locally, including the consideration of requirements for future apartment buildings being required to provide parking for tenants.
