An outbreak has been noted at a Caledonia retirement home.
Vaccine Lead Sarah Page said in a media call that testing began after a resident at RVilla became symptomatic.
Testing then went on to show 5 residents had COVID-19.
Page said it was her understanding that the residents in question had received two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine.
Acting Medical Officer Of Health Dr. Alex Hukowich says this is part of a growing number of “breakthrough cases” where double vaccinated individuals catch the virus.
With that, he says these cases are less severe than they were during outbreaks when the virus first began.
One resident did get transferred to the hospital, but the individual had underlying conditions.
They have adapted to the outbreak, stopping congregate functions at this time.
Once more information is available, we will provide an update.
