The Simcoe and District Humane Society is hitting the road this weekend, hoping to connect some four-legged friends with their forever families.
The local shelter has been invited to take part in PetSmart Charities National Adoption Week, with volunteers and animals visiting PetSmart locations at Meadowlands in Ancaster and on Henry Street in Brantford.
President Cathie Hoskins says there will be plenty of animals for people to meet.
Each location is expected to have about 10 to 12 cats and kittens, along with a dog, a rabbit and several guinea pigs.
One of the dogs looking for a home is Catchup, a 21-kilogram poodle pointer. Hoskins describes him as an active and agile dog with a knack for getting into things, and his name comes from his tendency to “catch” just about anything.
Some younger animals will also make an appearance but will not be ready to leave just yet. Interested families may be able to place a hold on them before completing the adoption later.
Hoskins says National Adoption Week also provides important support for the local shelter.
PetSmart Charities also helps with food and provides adoption space where the Humane Society can keep cats while they wait to meet potential families.
For the Simcoe and District Humane Society, the weekend is another opportunity to get animals out into the community and, hopefully, into loving homes.
