The Routes to Roots Film Festival is bringing its run to a close after many years of celebrating film, storytelling and the connections created through shared cinematic experiences.
In a statement announcing the decision, the festival’s board of directors said the choice to end the festival was a difficult one, while expressing gratitude to the people who supported the event throughout its history.
The board thanked its volunteers, sponsors, filmmakers, audiences, community partners and everyone who believed in the festival’s mission of bringing thought-provoking stories and unique film experiences to the community.
Organizers say the festival provided opportunities for people to come together through film, discover new perspectives and take part in conversations inspired by the stories shown on screen.
“Through the films we shared and the conversations they inspired, we hope we helped bring people together, introduce new perspectives, and create lasting memories,” the board said.
The festival’s organizers acknowledged that the decision to close marks the end of an important chapter, but said they remain proud of what Routes to Roots accomplished over the years.
They also highlighted the contributions of those who helped the festival grow and continue, recognizing the enthusiasm and love of film shown by the people who attended and supported its events.
Although the festival is coming to an end, the board says the stories shared and connections made will remain an important part of its legacy.
The announcement did not provide further details about the reasons behind the decision or outline any plans for future events.
The board of directors closed its statement by thanking everyone who had been part of the Routes to Roots Film Festival journey, expressing heartfelt gratitude for the support it received over the years.
