Families touched by pregnancy and infant loss are invited to come together for an evening of remembrance, reflection and support in Simcoe.
Norfolk-Haldimand Community Hospice and Smith Funeral Home are hosting a reflective walk Wednesday, October 14 at 6:30 p.m. at Wellington Park.
Program Lead with Care Services Maureen Russell says the evening will give people a safe place to acknowledge their loss.
The evening will include light refreshments, grief support and a special lantern release on the water.
With darkness beginning to settle over Wellington Park around the time of the walk, Russell says the floating lanterns will provide families with a quiet and meaningful opportunity to remember.
Organizers have also checked with local officials to make sure the lantern release can be carried out safely.
Russell says the event also highlights how hospice services extend beyond what many people traditionally associate with end-of-life care.
She says pregnancy and infant loss can sometimes be overlooked, but those losses and the hopes families had for their children matter.
Anyone touched by pregnancy or infant loss is welcome to attend, regardless of whether that loss happened recently or years ago. No registration is required, and people can simply come to Wellington Park and join the gathering.
