Simcoe Little Theatre is getting ready to raise the curtain on its 81st season, bringing a mix of musicals, comedy and Canadian talent to the local stage.
Andy Dominick, Head of Shop on the theatre’s Leadership Committee, says the season opens November 26 with Shrek the Musical, based on the popular DreamWorks movie.
The family-friendly production brings Shrek, Donkey, Princess Fiona and other familiar characters to the stage, while adding songs that give audiences more time to connect with them.
Next up is Forever Plaid, opening March 4. The musical follows a four-member singing group given one final opportunity to perform the concert they never got to finish. It features nostalgic pop hits from the 1950s and 1960s.
The season wraps up May 6 with Canadian playwright Norm Foster’s Office Hours, directed by Nancy Gibbs Gilbert. The comedy follows six interconnected stories unfolding in six offices on the same Friday afternoon.
Dominick says the variety is part of what makes the upcoming season exciting, while community support continues to make local theatre possible.
Discounted season tickets covering all three productions are available.
Simcoe Little Theatre is also planning more workshops and a one-night Christmas concert, giving the community even more opportunities to get involved both on and off the stage.
