Haldimand County OPP are asking for the public’s assistance in locating a missing 35-year-old Hamilton man after an extensive search in the Cayuga area.
Police say Kyle Laforme was reported missing after officers were dispatched to a report of an abandoned vehicle on Ouse Street in Cayuga at approximately 12:30 p.m. on September 27th.
Investigators later determined Laforme had abandoned the vehicle, raising concerns about his well-being and prompting a missing-person investigation.
Laforme is described as an Indigenous man, approximately 180 centimetres tall, with long dark hair, brown eyes, a thin moustache and a full beard.
He was last seen wearing a red and black plaid flannel-style shirt over a dark-coloured shirt, red and black plaid pajama pants and white Adidas foam-style slides resembling Crocs.
He also has several identifiable tattoos, including a bird-themed sleeve on his left arm, the word “mom” on his chest and a tattoo of the cartoon character Stitch dressed as Pikachu on his right calf.
Police say Laforme left his residence in a blue Chevrolet SUV during the early morning hours of September 27th.
The vehicle was captured on video surveillance travelling through Cayuga at approximately 2:30 a.m. An unidentified individual was also seen walking in the area of the Highway 3 bridge around that time.
Investigators have not confirmed the identity of that person.
An initial search of the immediate area and nearby waterway was conducted by the West Region OPP Emergency Response Team and Haldimand Fire.
The search continued over the following days, with assistance from the OPP Marine Unit, Underwater Search and Rescue Unit and Aviation Services.
A missing-person bulletin has also been shared through OPP West Region social media platforms as investigators continue efforts to locate Laforme.
Police are now asking residents, businesses, anglers and motorists in Cayuga and around the Highway 3 bridge to review any available security-camera footage, dash-camera recordings, trail-camera images or other video captured during the early morning hours of September 27th.
Anyone who may have seen Laforme, his blue Chevrolet SUV or the unidentified pedestrian near the Highway 3 bridge is asked to contact Haldimand County OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
Those wishing to remain anonymous can contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS). Information provided to Crime Stoppers may make callers eligible for a cash reward of up to $2,000.
