Norfolk County is warning residents about an altered version of one of its waste collection stickers that has been circulating on social media.
The County says the image being shared online is an edited version of an official communication used as part of the new waste collection program.
The image circulating online appears to show a sticker placed on a grey garbage cart telling a resident that it is not their garbage collection week.
However, the version being shared includes the words “you moron” following the message about it not being the resident’s garbage week.
The County says the official sticker does not contain that language.
It remains unclear how the version circulating online was altered.
The County says the actual stickers are placed on grey garbage carts that have been put out during the wrong collection week.
The official notice advises residents that it is not their scheduled garbage collection week and directs them to check their collection schedule online.
The County’s official wording reads:
“Oops! Unfortunately, this is not your garbage collection week.”
Residents are then asked to roll their grey cart to the curb the following week and are directed to scan a QR code or visit the County’s collection-day webpage to find their schedule.
The County is encouraging residents to rely on official Norfolk County resources for information about the new system rather than unofficial posts circulating online.
