A house fire in Simcoe earlier this week has now turned into a fatal investigation.
Norfolk County OPP confirmed that the 50-year-old person rescued from a home on Orchard Avenue Monday afternoon later died in hospital.
Emergency crews were called to the home at around 1 p.m. on September 21. Norfolk County firefighters from the Simcoe and Waterford stations responded and located the fire in the kitchen.
Firefighters entered the home and found the occupant inside. Life-saving efforts were made by emergency responders before the person was taken to hospital, where they were later pronounced deceased.
Several animals were also rescued from the home, while others were found deceased.
Damage was initially estimated at approximately $80,000.
The Norfolk County OPP Crime Unit is now investigating the fire alongside the Office of the Fire Marshal and the Office of the Chief Coroner.
