OPP Festive RIDE Campaign
Norfolk County OPP laid 62 charges during the 2026 Labour Day traffic campaign, with speeding accounting for the vast majority of the offences.
Local officers laid 53 speeding charges, along with five seatbelt charges, three stunt-driving charges and one distracted-driving charge between September 4 and September 7.
There were no impaired-driving charges laid in Norfolk County during the campaign.
The Labour Day traffic safety education and enforcement campaign was conducted across the OPP West Region and focused on what police describe as the “Big Four” bad driving behaviours: aggressive driving, failure to wear a seatbelt, distracted driving and impaired driving.
OPP say those behaviours remain the leading contributing factors to death, injury and property damage on Ontario roads and highways.
Across the West Region, officers conducted 2,330 traffic stops and laid 2,142 charges during this year’s campaign.
That represents an increase from 2025, when West Region officers conducted 2,155 traffic stops and laid 1,601 charges.
Speeding was once again the most common offence, with 1,004 charges laid this year compared with 814 in 2025.
Police also laid 37 stunt-driving charges, compared with 27 last year, while 172 seatbelt charges were issued compared with 123 in 2025.
There were 11 distracted-driving charges this year, up from five in 2025, while impaired-driving charges increased slightly from 50 to 52.
