Waterford’s new veteran banner program received a strong community welcome during its inaugural dedication ceremony this past Sunday.
The Waterford & District Veterans Banner Association held the ceremony at Royal Canadian Legion Branch 123, officially recognizing the first 22 veterans featured in the program.
Organizers described the turnout as amazing and thanked residents, families, local businesses and others who helped make the ceremony a success.
The volunteer-led initiative honours veterans from Waterford and the surrounding area for their service and sacrifice. Memorial banners sponsored by families, friends and businesses are now displayed throughout Waterford’s downtown and at the Legion.
The association hopes the banners will also encourage conversations about local veterans and the impact they had on the community and Canada’s freedoms.
Following Sunday’s successful dedication, organizers are encouraging residents and visitors to see the banners and learn more about the veterans whose stories they represent.
