Norfolk County is reminding drivers to use extra caution on local roads as students return to school.
With school beginning September 8, the County says roads will become busier as parents drop children off, school buses return to their routes and students walk and cycle to school.
Whether driving children to school or commuting to work, motorists are being reminded that safe driving plays an important role in protecting everyone in the community.
Drivers are being asked to obey posted speed limits, particularly in school zones and Community Safety Zones, and to avoid distracted driving by keeping their eyes on the road and their hands on the wheel.
The County is also reminding motorists to be “crosswalk smart” and watch for pedestrians, children and crossing guards.
Drivers should keep an eye out for children walking, biking or waiting along roadways, as well as school buses making regular stops to pick up students.
Motorists are reminded to watch for school bus lights and stop when required.
The County is wishing students, teachers, school staff and families a safe and successful start to the new school year.
