The West Lynn Public School Music Program is getting a major boost thanks to 100 Women Who Care Norfolk.
The group announced Monday that the school’s music program was selected to receive $19,200 following its latest meeting.
The program supports students of different ages and grades while also bringing music into the wider community. Students perform at music festivals and public concerts, as well as at local nursing homes.
The money will help the program purchase new equipment, including an electronic keyboard that can be used for piano accompaniment at outdoor performances. It will also go toward hand chimes and kalimbas.
Some of the donation will be used to purchase choir uniform T-shirts, helping families who may have difficulty covering the cost of appropriate clothing for performances.
Transportation is also on the list. The program plans to use some of the funding for buses, allowing students to perform at more venues throughout the community.
