The field of candidates seeking to become Norfolk County’s next mayor has narrowed, with Rhyus Reeves announcing he is withdrawing from the municipal election.
In a statement shared on social media, Reeves said the decision was difficult but ultimately came down to family commitments.
“As of today, I have officially withdrawn my name from the 2026 Norfolk County mayoral race,” Reeves wrote.
“This was not an easy decision, but I’ve realized I cannot give this campaign the time and commitment it deserves without taking away from my family.”
Reeves thanked those who encouraged him to seek the mayor’s office and expressed appreciation for the support he received throughout the campaign.
Reeves also wished the remaining candidates well as they continue campaigning ahead of October’s municipal election.
His withdrawal reduces the mayoral field from seven candidates to six.
The remaining registered candidates are Ward 6 Councillor and Deputy Mayor Adam Veri, former Haldimand County Mayor Ken Hewitt, Noel Haydt, Doug Brunton, Keith Milner and David Finch.
