Teens in Norfolk County still have a chance to take part in a unique summer art experience as Lynnwood Arts’ new Emerging Makers program is nearly sold out.
The week-long workshop series is designed for youth aged 14 to 17 and runs August 17–21 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Lynnwood Art Centre on Lynnwood Avenue in Simcoe. Each day introduces a different artistic medium taught by local professional artists.
Curator and events manager Chelsea Brant tells us the workshops focus on unique disciplines.
Participants will explore stained glass, fused glass, mosaics, jelly plate printing, lino cut printing, letterpress, pottery and acrylic painting with instructors including Ingrid Zyma-Irvin, Irma Makariunaite, Ian Bell, Rudi Atkinson and Sherry Lloyd.
Director Carole Aschelmann said students will enjoy a relaxed and creative environment with breaks, lunch in the outdoor gazebo or indoor art library, and access to the gallery’s current exhibition throughout the week.
Aschelmann hopes the program sells out, allowing Lynnwood Arts to expand it with additional sessions throughout the year.
The program also includes a pizza party on the final day. Roulston’s Pharmacy has sponsored workshop materials, while the Simcoe Lions Club has funded two registrations for youth in need, helping make the program more accessible.
A few spaces remain. Registration is available through the Lynnwood Arts website, with daily program previews also being shared on the organization’s Instagram page.
