The race to become Norfolk County’s next mayor continues to grow, with Ward 6 Councillor and Deputy Mayor Adam Veri officially entering the contest.
Veri filed his nomination papers late last week, becoming the seventh registered candidate seeking the municipality’s top elected position in the October municipal election.
In announcing his campaign on social media, Veri said he had not originally planned to run for mayor, but changed his mind after months of encouragement from residents across Norfolk County.
“I did not expect to be in this position,” Veri wrote. “The encouragement and support from people across Norfolk County, urging me to take this step, has been frequently surprising, and at times overwhelming.”
His full comments can be found here.
Veri joins an increasingly crowded mayoral field ahead of the October election.
The candidates currently registered are Noel Haydt, Doug Brunton, former Haldimand County Mayor Ken Hewitt, Rhyus Reeves, Keith Milner, David Finch, and now Adam Veri.
With seven candidates now seeking the mayor’s chair, Norfolk County voters are shaping up to have one of the most competitive municipal mayoral races in recent memory.
