Ontario Provincial Police in West Region laid 143 charges during a week-long commercial vehicle safety campaign aimed at reducing collisions and improving road safety.
The annual ‘Operation Safe Driver’ campaign ran from July 12 to 18 and focused on both commercial motor vehicle operators and passenger vehicle drivers.
OPP say enforcement targeted the leading causes of commercial vehicle collisions, including speeding, improper lane changes and following too closely.
The charges were laid across 13 detachments in West Region.
Among the violations were 30 inspection and maintenance-related charges, 25 offences involving permits, licence plates or driver’s licences, and 25 speeding charges. Officers also issued 18 disobey sign charges, 11 seatbelt charges, eight equipment-related charges, six distracted driving charges and four careless driving charges.
Police say commercial vehicle safety remains a priority and enforcement efforts will continue throughout the year to help reduce collisions and keep Ontario roads safe.
