The Woodland Cultural Centre will present You Are Not Forgotten, a special collaborative quilt exhibition that honours Residential School Survivors while celebrating the stories and connections of communities along the Grand River.
Running from July 20 to August 15, the exhibition will be held inside the former Mohawk Institute Residential School. An opening reception is scheduled for Thursday, July 23, from 6 to 8:30 p.m.
The exhibition features Quilts for Survivors, handmade by the Six Nations Piecemakers Quilt Club. The quilts were created to honour Residential School Survivors and offer messages of care, comfort and remembrance.
Visitors will also see the Grand River Quilt Project, a community initiative featuring more than 70 quilt squares created by people living along the Grand River watershed. Each square is paired with a story or poem describing the creator’s personal connection to the river.
The opening reception will also include performances by Grandview Theatre Company and the Canadian Centre for Rural Creativity, inspired by stories from the Grand River Quilt Project and the Mohawk Institute. The exhibition aims to encourage learning, reflection and community connection through art and storytelling.
