OPP reminds drivers to turn on headlights as wildfire smoke reduces visibility
With wildfire smoke continuing to affect visibility across parts of Ontario, the OPP is reminding motorists to take extra precautions before hitting the road.
Sergeant Ed Sanchuk with West Region OPP says drivers should turn on their full headlighting system whenever visibility is reduced by smoke.
Sanchuk notes daytime running lights alone may not activate a vehicle’s rear lights, making it more difficult for other drivers to see you from behind.
The OPP is also encouraging motorists to slow down, increase their following distance and remain alert for changing road conditions and emergency vehicles.
Sanchuk says a simple step like turning on your headlights can go a long way toward preventing collisions.
