Norfolk County and Grand Erie Public Health are urging residents to take precautions as smoke from the large structure fire on Highway 3 between Simcoe and Delhi continues to affect air quality.
Issued Tuesday, the advisory warns that smoke, combined with hot weather and already poor air quality conditions, is creating hazy skies and smoky air across parts of Simcoe and nearby communities.
Residents may notice reduced visibility and the smell of smoke. Officials recommend keeping windows and doors closed where smoke is present, limiting time outdoors, and avoiding strenuous physical activity. Air conditioning or air filtration systems should be used if available.
People are also encouraged to check on family members, neighbours, seniors, and others who may be more sensitive to smoke or extreme heat.
Norfolk County Fire remains on scene, and residents are asked to avoid the area and follow directions from emergency crews. Anyone experiencing difficulty breathing or other serious symptoms should seek medical attention. Air quality conditions may change quickly as firefighting efforts continue.
