A lengthy police response in downtown Port Dover ended safely Saturday evening after Ontario Provincial Police took one person into custody following a barricaded incident.
The Norfolk County OPP said officers were called to a Main Street address at about 3:45 p.m. on Saturday, July 11, after receiving a report of a barricaded individual.
The response involved several specialized OPP units, including the West Region Emergency Response Team, Tactics and Rescue Unit, Canine Unit, and Crisis Negotiators.
As the incident unfolded, police closed Main Street between Clifford Street and Alma Street and asked nearby residents to shelter in place while officers worked to safely resolve the situation.
Shortly before 9 p.m., officers safely took the individual into custody without further incident.
Following the arrest, the road closure was lifted and the shelter-in-place advisory was cancelled. However, police remained in the area for several hours as the investigation continued.
The OPP has not released the identity of the individual or provided further details about what led to the barricaded incident.
Police thanked residents, businesses, and motorists for their patience and cooperation throughout the response.
The investigation remains ongoing.
