A world-renowned Latin music group will make its Canadian debut in Norfolk County this week as Compota de Mañana takes the stage at Bonnieheath Estate on Thursday, July 9.
The concert, titled A Havana Affair with Compota de Mañana, is a partnership between Waterford Old Town Hall and Bonnieheath Estate. The performance is the first stop on the Barcelona-based band’s three-show Canadian tour before appearances in Toronto and at London’s Sunfest.
Claire Senko, Artistic Director of Waterford Old Town Hall, said the concert offers much more than a typical live performance.
Compota de Mañana has earned international attention for its energetic mix of Cuban timba, jazz, rap and rock. The band has performed at major festivals, including Coachella, and gained worldwide recognition after a breakout performance at the WOMEX global music conference.
Senko said the band’s music creates an atmosphere that appeals to all ages.
Senko believes the performance is unlike anything the region has hosted before. Families are welcome, and attendees are encouraged to bring blankets and enjoy the evening.
VIP tickets include early access, wine and cocktail tastings paired with Cuban-inspired bites, premium parking, a guided estate tour and reserved stage-side seating. General admission tickets are also available.
The event will be hosted by local radio personality and Cuba enthusiast Gerry Hamill, with all proceeds supporting the Waterford Old Town Hall capital fundraising campaign. The show begins at 7:30 p.m. this Thursday (July 9).
