Tia McGraff is inviting the community to an intimate afternoon of music, storytelling and children’s literature in downtown Simcoe this weekend.
The Norfolk County singer-songwriter will perform alongside her husband, Tommy Parham, at Kingfisher Café on Saturday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. The free event is being held in partnership with the Simcoe BIA’s Music and Murals activities taking place throughout the downtown core.
McGraff said the smaller venue offers a unique experience for both performers and audiences.
The event will feature acoustic performances, stories behind the songs, and a reading from McGraff’s upcoming children’s book, ‘In Your Dreams, Jake’. The book follows the adventures of Jake the Road Dog, a character inspired by a rescue husky McGraff and Parham adopted while living in Nashville. Although Jake struggled when he first arrived, McGraff said love and patience helped transform him into a loyal companion who travelled with the couple.
McGraff will also highlight her new children’s single, ‘The Caterpillar Song’, which was inspired by themes found in the new book.
The appearance comes shortly after McGraff was announced as one of the newest inductees into the Norfolk Music Hall of Fame, alongside Rory Dodd and Ian Bell. She said the recognition is especially meaningful because she hopes it encourages future generations of local musicians.
Organizers hope the performance will also showcase the potential of small local venues and help strengthen Simcoe’s growing arts scene.
