PeopleCare Delhi officially celebrated the grand opening of its new 128-bed long-term care home, marking a major milestone for seniors, families and healthcare services in Norfolk County.
Community leaders, residents, staff and government representatives gathered for a ribbon-cutting ceremony to recognize the completion of the new facility, which replaces the former 60-bed Delhi Long-Term Care Home. The new development adds 68 beds and creates approximately 180 jobs in nursing, personal support work, nutrition services, programming and administration.
Brent Gingerich, CEO of peopleCARE, said the project has been years in the making and builds on a vision first established by the Gheysen family, which founded Delhi’s long-term care home in the 1970s.
He added that the new home will allow more seniors to remain close to family and friends while receiving care in their own community.
Speaking on behalf of Ontario’s Minister of Long-Term Care, Parliamentary Assistant Dawn Gallagher Murphy noted that Ontario’s population is aging and that more people will require long-term care. She also highlighted the Ford government’s investment in new long-term care homes before praising the staff and volunteers who care for residents every day.
Haldimand-Norfolk MPP Bobbi-Ann Brady drew attention to the displays honouring Norfolk’s agricultural and tobacco heritage while recognizing the generations of residents whose hard work and perseverance helped build the community. She called the project especially meaningful as a “Delhi girl”.
The home is located on Dalton Rd and includes amenities such as a chapel, bistro, therapy rooms, family spaces and secure outdoor areas designed to support residents’ quality of life.
