The Norfolk County Public Library is inviting residents of all ages to take part in its 2026 Summer Reading Challenge and Summer Reading Program, beginning June 27.
The annual initiative, called “Once Upon A Summer,” encourages children, teens and adults to spend time reading throughout the summer while earning prizes along the way. Participants can track the number of minutes they read, making the challenge accessible for readers of all ages, abilities and reading levels.
The Summer Reading Challenge features four prize levels designed to keep readers motivated throughout the season. Library officials say tracking reading time, rather than the number of books completed, allows everyone to participate on an equal footing.
In addition to the reading challenge, Norfolk County Public Library branches will host a variety of hands-on activities and programs throughout the summer. Library staff will also be out in the community hosting special events aimed at keeping families engaged and learning during the school break.
Registration and reading tracking will take place through Beanstack, the online platform used by the library for reading challenges. Parents can create one account and add multiple readers, making it easy for families to participate together.
The 2026 Summer Reading Challenge officially begins Saturday, June 27.
