The Port Dover Lions Club is getting ready for another full day of Canada Day celebrations, continuing a tradition that has brought families together for generations.
The festivities begin at 9 a.m. with the Kinsmen Soapbox Derby on Main Street, followed by the unofficial Parade of Boats in the harbour at 11 a.m., a dog contest in Powell Park at noon, and the popular Calithumpian Parade at 2 p.m. through downtown Port Dover. The evening wraps up with a free concert by Pipe Down at Silver Lake Park before a fireworks display lights up the sky at 10 p.m.
Alan Strang of the Port Dover Lions Club said the event continues to draw visitors because its a tradition that stretches back to Confederation and its affordable.
The parade route hasn’t changed, starting at Clifford Street and Main, heads down Main to Clinton, and then back up towards Lakeview School on St. George Street.
Strang tells us there is a new addition this year for families to enjoy.
The evening wraps up with a spectacular 15-minute fireworks display, presented by Firemaster and made possible through community sponsors and funding from Heritage Canada.
Residents can also support the celebration by purchasing the annual Port Dover Lions Canada Day buttons, available now in local stores.
More information and the complete schedule of events can be found on the Port Dover Lions website and social media pages.
