Summer officially begins this weekend as two of Canada’s largest outdoor swimming pools open to visitors at Grand River Conservation Authority conservation areas.
The outdoor pools at Brant Conservation Area in Brantford and Byng Island Conservation Area in Dunnville open Saturday, June 20, offering families a chance to cool off during the summer season.
GRCA Director of Conservation Area Operations Pam Walther-Mabee said the pools provide an inclusive place for people of all ages to enjoy the outdoors, with low-slope entries designed for easy access.
The two-acre pool at Byng Island can accommodate up to 1,000 swimmers and features a deeper section with a jumping platform. The 1.25-acre Brant pool also includes a splash pad and gently sloping bottom for younger visitors.
Pool admission is $3 for anyone aged four and older, plus the regular conservation area day-use fee. Both pools remain open through September 7. Visitors can also enjoy camping, hiking, cycling, paddling and wildlife viewing while exploring the conservation areas this summer.
