Norfolk County residents are being encouraged to get active this June as the national ParticipACTION Community Challenge returns, promoting physical activity and community wellness across Canada.
The initiative invites communities nationwide to compete for the title of Canada’s Most Active Community, along with a $100,000 prize to support local sport and recreation programs.
In Norfolk County, the Norfolk Family Health Team is encouraging residents, workplaces, schools, and community groups to take part.
That was Michele Kershaw, a Registered Kinesiologist with the Norfolk Family Health Team.
Kershaw says when they saw the initiative returning, it only made sense to help get Norfolk involved.
She says those calls and emails have been paying off.
Several groups have already signed on, and the numbers can climb quickly when even one more group submits their activities.
Kershaw hopes this message reaches all corners of Norfolk County and encourages smaller groups to join in as well.
As she notes, the challenge isn’t just for large clubs.
The ParticipACTION Community Challenge is a national initiative funded by the Government of Canada and Novo Nordisk. It recognizes not only a national winner but also provincial, territorial, and organizational prize recipients.
Residents can learn more or register through ParticipACTION, while local health information is available through the Norfolk Family Health Team.
