The Huron Farmworkers Ministry has received a $19,100 donation from 100 Women Who Care Norfolk, providing a boost to programs that support migrant agricultural workers across Norfolk County.
The local charity works to assist migrant farmworkers who travel to Canada each year to help sustain the country’s agricultural industry. Founded on a mission of dignity, compassion, and respect, the ministry supports workers who spend months away from their homes and families while contributing to local farms and Canada’s food supply.
The funding will help provide essential items such as nutritious food, seasonal clothing, hygiene products, winter jackets, sweaters, T-shirts, blankets, and other necessities that help workers adjust to changing Canadian weather and living conditions.
The ministry also hosts weekly community meals every Thursday and Friday at Trinity Anglican Church, giving workers an opportunity to connect with others in the community.
Father Enrique Martinez said the gatherings help workers from different farms share experiences and build friendships. He noted that the regular social interaction supports emotional and mental well-being while helping workers feel welcomed and valued in Norfolk County.
