The Grand Erie District School Board is introducing a new way to recognize former students who are making a difference in their communities.
The board has announced the creation of its Hall of Distinction, an annual award that will celebrate alumni who lead, inspire, and contribute to positive change. The program is set to begin in September 2026.
Director of Education Dr. JoAnna Roberto says the award will highlight individuals whose achievements reflect the board’s values.
She says the Hall of Distinction will celebrate people whose journeys show excellence, leadership, and innovation, while inspiring others to follow similar paths.
Recipients will be chosen through a nomination process and must have graduated from a Grand Erie school at least 10 years ago. Nominees can come from a wide range of fields, including education, business, the arts, and community leadership.
Organizers say the goal is to honour alumni who are using their education as a foundation to make a meaningful impact.
Nominations are now open, with submissions accepted until June 12.
The board is encouraging community members to put forward candidates and help recognize the lasting impact of Grand Erie graduates.
